Mohanlal's 'Marakkar' in race for National Awards; receives seven nominations

Director Priyadarshan's latest film 'Marakkar: Lion of the Arabian Sea', starring Mohanlal, received seven nominations from the regional jury for the National Film Awards. The film has been nominated in various categories such as Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor and Best Costume Design. The nominations of the Malayalam- Tamil regional jury are before the main jury now.
A total of five regional juries will conduct the preliminary selection for the National Award. From that, the main jury decides the award. The main jury also has the power to recall images rejected by the regional jury.
A total of 17 Malayalam films including 'Vasanthi', 'Jallikattu' and 'Kumbalangi Nights'received nominations in various categories.<br>
Tamil actor Parthiban has been nominated for the Best Actor award by the highest number of jury members. 'Oththa Seruppu Size 7', written and directed by Parthiban received 5 nominations. The film was also screened in the Indian Panorama category at IFFI.
Twelve Tamil films, including Vetrimaran's 'Asuran' and Madhumita's 'Karuppudurai' were also nominated. 109 films, including 65 from Malayalam, appeared before the regional jury.
