Reported By 06 Jul 2020

A few days after her online social media post announcing her resignation from Women in Cinema Collective (WCC), on Monday morning, director Vidhu Vincent shared yet another post explaining her reasons for the same.In the post, Vidhu alleges that the collective members have elitist leanings, have double standards when it comes to working with those involved directly or indirectly with the actress assault case and that members had issues with her for having B Unnikrishnan as the producer of her second film ‘Stand Up.’ In the long post, she also says that despite giving her script for the film Stand Up to actress Parvathy, she didn’t reach out to her with a yes or no and that caused her pain.Towards the beginning of the post, she mentions that actress – director Revathy had asked her to send a mail explaining certain facts regarding the production of ‘Stand Up,’ as WCC members had certain doubts regarding the same. Vidhu says that WCC was formed around the time she was working on her second film, in the year 2017. She also thanks Sajitha Madhathil and Rima Kallingal for taking her on board, while the collective was formed.

Vidhu explains at length her strenuous journey towards finding a producer for ‘Stand Up,’ and how those like Sajitha and Anjali Menon tried at various stages to help her connect her with potential producers, to make the film. She says that while many in WCC take B Unnikrishnan’s help for various matters, they expressed an issue only when he became her film’s producer. She also alleges that the members, who didn’t have an issue with Siddique worked with Parvathy in ‘Uyare,’ turned against her in the case of B Unnikrishnan.

The post also touches on various other matters like the lack of clarity regarding who the members can associate with for films, how various people have mentioned to her that Deedi Damodaran isn’t in favour of her, how most members didn’t make it to the music launch of her movie and more.
