Five years after his sophomore directorial Urumbukal Urangarilla that had Vinay Forrt and Chemban Vinod in the lead, filmmaker Jiju Ashokan is set to make his debut as a director in Kollywood with its Tamil remake.

Jiju, who has also scripted the Tamil film, tells us, “The scripting of the movie is almost done. The only work left is to fine-tune it for the Tamil audience. A production house is on board and we will finalise the casting in a fortnight. We are hoping to begin the shoot soon.”

Urumbukal Urangarilla is a thriller revolving around a bunch of thieves who hatch a plan to trap a murderer. On choosing the remake for his debut in Tamil, he says, “The story of the film is more apt for Tamil than Malayalam as it will work better due to their cultural milieu and myths. I am sure the Tamil audience will connect with the story and characters even better. Right now, we are trying to fine-tune the dialogues to go with the rusticity. It shouldn’t be like someone who has no connection with Tamil is making a movie.”

Meanwhile, Jiju had also announced a movie with Antony Varghese and Chemban Vinod last year. “Both of them had read the script and have agreed to come onboard. We will finalise the dates for that film next week and depending on that decide the schedule of the Tamil movie,” he concludes.
