Mohanlal’s directorial debut ‘Barroz’ goes on floors, Mammootty, Dileep, Prithviraj attend pooja function

Superstar Mohanlal is donning the director’s hat for the first time and that too for a children’s fantasy film. The launch of the film had gone on floors with a pooja function held at Navodaya Studios in Kakkanad. Actors Mammootty, Dileep, Prithviraj, Ashok Kumar who launched Mohanlal through Thiranottam and other prominent figures including Faasil, Sibi Malayil, Priyadarshan, T K Rajeev Kumar, Major Ravi, Suresh Kumar, Sathyan Anthikadu, Santhosh Sivan, Antony Perumbavoor attended the launch.

Mohanlal will play the lead role ‘Barroz’ in the film. Prithviraj is also starring in the film. The film will also have Spanish actors Paz Vega and Rafael Amarg. Barroz-Guardian of D’Gama’s Treasure is based on a story by Jijo Punnoose, the mastermind behind ‘My Dear Kuttichathan’, India’s first 3D film.This is a period film with a Portuguese background. Barroz is the demon who safeguards the treasure of Vasco da Gama. Barroz guarding the treasure for 400 years is waiting for the real heir. The film is about a boy who appears before Barroz for the treasure.


The pre-production works of the film had started in Navodaya Studio earlier. There are reports that Mohanlal will not commit any films till the completion of Barroz.The film is set against the backdrop of the maritime history of Portugal, Spain, Africa and India. It is, indeed, about the shared heritage that we inherited from our ancestors, Mohanlal had said earlier.

“In the wonderful paths that life travelled through, without even realising it, I became an actor and a filmmaker. Cinema became my life and livelihood. Now, I am setting out on another wonderful journey; with the start of the Barroz shoot on March 24, I am making my debut as director. It is a blessing that I have Navodaya with me in their venture. I request that you support me as the Barroz journey gets underway,” Mohanlal said in a video message that he posted on Twitter on eve of the launch event.

13-year-old child prodigy Lydian Nadhaswaram is scoring music for the film. It will be shot in Goa, Portugal and some other exotic locations.
