Madhabi Mukherjee to be chief guest at IFFK

Evergreen Bengali Film actress Madhabi Mukherjee will be the Chief Guest at the the 22nd International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK). The IFFK will get kickstarted on December 8, this year with a gala opening ceremony scheduled to be organized at the Nisagandhi auditorium in Thiruvananthapuram. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate Kerala’s globally renowned festival of films which will go on till December 15.
Madhabi Mukherjee, much acclaimed for her role in the classic movie Charulatha directed by Satyajit Ray, has played the title roles in movies which the world’s best filmmakers like Godard and Bergman called extraordinary.
It’s been half century since the movie Charulatha but the character remains in everyone’s heart. After Charulatha, she starred in many movies which include Ritwik Ghatak’s Subarna Rekha, Komal Gandhar, and Megh Thake Tare, and Satyajit Ray’s Mahanagar and Kalpurush. She had also acted in well-known films of Mrinal Sen, Rituparnagosh and Tapan Sinha.
Madhavi Mukherjee was seen playing roles alongside famous Bengali theater actors Sisir Bhaduri and Ahindhra Chaudhari.
In the year 1970, Madhabi bagged the National Award for the Bimal Bhaumik- Narayan Chakravarthi movie Dibradir Kabhiya. The feat made her the first Bengali actress to receive the National Award.
This year’s edition of IFFK is expected to have an array of world renowned films along with Indian movies that have been widely acclaimed. The festival would bring to the Kerala capital thousands of film enthusiasts from across India and abroad.
