Dubbing artiste and actress Pala Thankam passes away in Pathanapuram

Dubbing artiste and actress Pala Thankam alias Radhamani passed away here on Sunday. She was 80 years old. The demise occurred at around 7.35 pm. She has been an inmate of Pathanapuram Gandhi Bhavan since 2013. Thankam passed away while undergoing treatment in palliative care due to old age illness. The body is in the Gandhi Bhavan mortuary. The funeral will be held later.
Radhamani was born on February 26, 1941 as the daughter of Kunjukuttan and Lakshmikutty at Sarathchandra Bhava in, Thiruvathukal in Kottayam's Veloor. She studied music from an early age. The first Guru was Puliyanur Vijayan Bhagavathar. Later she practiced music from Changanassery LPR Varma. She became renowned in the field of art in the name Pala Thankam.
In the movie Kedavilakku starring Sathyan, she sang two songs-'Tamara Malar Pol' and 'Thekku Pattin'. Thankam, who came to Madras for this, unexpectedly got an opportunity to play a role alongside Sathyan. But the film did not come out. But it also helped her to be active in the cultural arena of Pala. That is how the name Pala Thankam came to be.
She entered the theater at the age of fourteen. She first acted in NN Pillai's Vishwakerala Nataka Samithi. She returned to cinema by giving voice to Kushalakumari in the film Sita. Thereafter she gave voices for the protagonists, children, older women, birds, and even three or four characters in a scene in some films. She gave voice for Sadhana in the film 'Shiksha'.
