SS Rajamouli To Be Honoured With Akkineni National Award

Latest news reveals that director S.S. Rajamouli, whose last film ‘Baahubali’ was a superhit at the box office has been chosen for the Akkineni Nageswara Rao national award for 2017. The director will receive the honour from the honourable Vice-President, M. Venkaiah Naidu. The ceremony is set to be held on September 17 in Hyderabad.
Meanwhile, son of late ANR, Akkineni Nagarjuna announced the award in presence of award committee chairman Dr. T. Subbarami Reddy, who is also a Congress MP. Recalling his previous days with ANR Rajamouli, Subbarami Reddy said, “The thought of instituting the award came to the thespian when he received the Dadasaheb Phalke award. He started the award in 2005 for a person who dedicated their life to the development of Indian cinema”.
Earlier, popular Bollywood actor Dev Anand had been conferred this prestigious award. Moreover, the award was supposed to be given away on September 20, which is the birth anniversary of late ANR. However, due to the Vice-President’s busy schedule, it has been rescheduled to September 17. Further, this award has not been given to anyone since two years.
