KJ Joy, was one of the triumvirate of music directors (Shyam and AT Ummer being the other two music directors who created similar music) that attempted to change the Malayalam music world from the days of classically grounded music of Devarajan-Baburaj-Dakshinamoorthy.Joy, created amazing music for his time, and sometimes you wonder whether he was indeed a bit ahead of his time. Mystic Swara, has a detailed analysis on him which traces his career. His expertise in keyboard and accordion were the primary reasons he came to the composing field and in a short span of time he found that his true love was still playing keyboards. A little known fact was that he did the orchestration for the movie, Sankarabharanam, for KV Mahadevan and Pukazhenthi. Their association for this movie led to the songs for the movie Arayannam, which they jointly composed.Joy's music has been truly timeless. His songs are still so refreshing in this day and age.
