Chandra Mohan was born on 23 May 1945 at Pamidimukkala (Village and Mandal) in Krishna district in Andhra Pradesh. He graduated from the agriculture college of Bapatla. He has a brother named Chinnayya and an elder sister named Satyavathi. He is the cousin of veteran filmmaker K. Viswanath. he is an Indian film actor known for his works predominantly in Telugu cinema and few Tamil films. He has garnered two Filmfare Awards, and sevenNandi Awards. He received critical reception for his performance in box office hits such as Rangula Ratnam for which he received the state Nandi Award for Best Actor, Padaharella Vayasu (1978) alongside Sridevi for which he won the Filmfare Best Actor Award (Telugu), and Siri Siri Muvva (1978) with Jayaprada. His first Tamil film is Naalai Namadhe (1975). Some of the films in which he was starred as the lead actor are Seetamalakshmi, Radha Kalyanam, Rendu Rella Aaru, Chandamama Raave and Ram Robert Rahim.
